Investigation of asymptomatic raised aminotransferase levels
The investigation of asymptomatic raised aminotransferase levels is divided into:
- first line
- second line
If after first and second line investigations the cause of the elevated aminotransferases is not apparent then:
- if the levels are more than twice normal a liver biopsy may be indicated
- if the levels are less than twice normal then a policy of watchfull waiting may be appropriate
