Perineum
The examination of the perineum in the secondary survey should include:
- general examination:
- meatal blood indicative of trauma to the genitourinary tract
- bruising
- rectal examination:
- blood
- lacerations
- sphincter tone; may be lost after a lower motor neurone injury
- prostate high-riding; indicative of pelvic trauma
- vaginal examination:
- foreign bodies
- lacerations
