Pharmacokinetic variation

Authoring team

Pharmacokinetic variations in inducing drug side effects include:

  • pharmacogenetic variation - genetic abnormalities
  • hepatic disease - liver has a large capacity for metabolism which is hard to diminish with damage, but shunting is important
  • renal disease - probably the most important - retention of drug or toxic product
  • cardiac disease
  • thyroid disease - hyperthyroidism may cause resistance
