Therapy aims to replace intravascular volume:

  • whole blood transfusion
  • topped up with gelatins, etc.
  • normal saline
  • Hartmann's

Loss of intravascular fluid does result in a degree of loss from the interstitial fluids; this is replaced with the isotonic fluids.
