As an antiarrhythmic
Lignocaine is indicated in ventricular arrhythmias, particularly after mycocardial infarction. It is a drug with a large volume of distribution and thus there is a high loading dose and relatively small maintenance dose. It is broken down in the liver.
Cautions include congestive cardiac failure, hepatic failure, and cardiac surgery.
Contraindications include sino-atrial disorders, atrioventricluar block, myocardial depression and porphyria.
