Drug types
Commonly-used local anaesthetics include:
- lignocaine
- prilocaine
- bupivacaine
The following esters have limited, specialised roles:
- amethocaine - bronchoscopy
- cocaine - ENT surgery
Overdosage of any local anaesthetic can result convulsions, twitching and psychosis.
