Aetiology
Causes include:
- severe refractive errors e.g. amblyopia.
- ocular pathology.
- ocular malformations e.g. coloboma, no eye, no iris.
- corneal opacities.
- cataracts.
- glaucoma.
- retinal pathology e.g. retinitis pigmentosa, retinoblastoma.
- ocular trauma.
- pathology affecting the optic nerve and tract e.g. pituitary tumour, glioma.
- cortical blindness.
