Achlorhydria

Achlorhydria is a deficiency of hydrochloric acid within the stomach. It may be a normal variant or the result of gastric mucosal atrophy.

In the latter case, the decrease in intrinsic factor can lead to pernicious anaemia. Also, achlorhydria is associated with iron deficiency.
