The basophil has a lobulated nucleus with peripheral heterochromatin and central euchromatin. There are few cytoplasmic organelles except characteristic large, coarse membrane-bound granules. The granules contain a variety of enzymes:

  • heparin
  • histamine
  • hydrolytic enzymes
