    • the Jo-1 antigen is one of a series of transfer ribonucleic acid (tRNA) sythetases that can act as autoantigens - in this case histidyl tRNA sythetase
    • antibodies to Jo-1 correlate with disease activity in the polymyositis and dermatomyositis spectrum, especially with the presence of pulmonary interstitial disease
    • antibodies to Jo-1 are found less often in SLE and mixed connective tissue disorders
    • Jo-1 functions in the cytoplasm but was originally classified as an extractable nuclear antigen (ENA) - still remains part of the ENA group
