Despite an apparently identical infectious agent, the presentation of AIDS appears to differ according to the country of presentation. This is perhaps not unexpected, considering the very different infectious agents to which an immunocompromised individual is exposed to in developing compared to western countries. However, more surprising is the different presentations in western countries which appears to be due to the mode of transmission of the virus.
