Infectious causes of lymphadenopathy may be local or general.

Local infections tend to cause lymphadenopathy as follows:

  • cervical nodes - throat or scalp
  • axillary nodes - arm infection or immunisation
  • inguinal nodes - leg infection, perineal, perianal
