Roundworms are relatively uncommon in the UK; however, they represent a major problem in many areas in the world.
Classification:
- gut-dwelling nematodes of humans:
- confined to the gut:
- enterobiasis - threadworms
- trichuriasis - whipworm
- with tissue migration:
- hookworms - Ancylcostoma duodenale; Necator americanus
- ascariasis
- strongyloides
- confined to the gut:
- gut-dwelling nematodes of animals with tissue spread in humans - toxocariosis
- tissue nematodes - worms of human origin dwelling in human tissues - filiarial worms
