Apprehension test (shoulder joint examination)
This is a test for shoulder joint instability.
The patient is supine or standing during the test. The shoulder is passively abducted to 90 degrees. The shoulder is then slowly externally rotated. A positive test will occur if the patient becomes apprehensive that the shoulder will give way.
