Superior surface
The superior surface of the clavicle is associated with the following structures, from medial to lateral:
- interclavicular ligament
- sternocleidomastoid - clavicular head; medial third of the superior surface
- cervical fascia:
- two layers attached separately to bone
- invest sternocleidomastoid medially and trapezius laterally
- trapezius muscle:
- origin passes around onto posterior surface
- in continuity with acromial origin laterally
