The following drugs when taken in overdose are amongst the most common to cause coma:

  • opiates
  • tranquillisers
  • alcohol
  • salicylates
  • antidepressants - often taken together in overdose

It has however become a truism that any drug taken in overdose which causes adverse effects can cause "coma, convulsions and death".
