Focal cerebral causes of epilepsy include:
- birth injury or cerebral malformation

- hypertension
- vascular malformation, e.g. Sturge-Weber
- tumour
- trauma
- irradiation
- atrophy
- degenerative disease, for example presenile dementia
- other neurological disease:
- multiple sclerosis
- leukodystrophies
- tuberous sclerosis: epiloia
