Specific syndromes are associated with occlusion of the penetrating midline branches of the basilar artery. They include:

  • Benedikt's syndrome - damage at the level of the midbrain
  • Millard-Gubler syndrome - at the level of the pons
  • locked in syndrome - at the level of the medulla
