Causes of femoral neuropathy
These include:
- surgical procedures e.g. hip and hernia operations, cannulation of the femoral artery
- trauma - blunt injuries and stab wounds to the upper thigh, pelvic and hip fractures
- iliac compartment syndrome e.g. secondary to a haematoma due to a bleeding diathesis
- diabetic amyotrophy
- tumours
- being placed in the lithotomy position e.g. in gynaecological surgery
