The most striking feature of sporadic CJD is the rapidity of the neurological deterioration; the patient may go from normality to death in months.

The main findings are:

  • progressive dementia
  • progressive ataxia
  • progressive rigidity and myoclonus
  • finally, akinetic mutism and death
