The electron transfer chain consists of the following sequential enzymes:

  • NADH dehydrogenase
  • coenzyme Q - ubiquinone
  • ubiquinone dehydrogenase
  • cytochrome c
  • cytochrome c oxidase

Additionally, FADH2 enters the chain at the level of coenzyme Q as the coenzyme in the membrane-bound portion of the enzyme succinate dehydrogenase. The protein pumping activities of NADH dehydrogenase, ubiquinone dehydrogenase and cytochrome c oxidase all contribute to ongoing oxidative phosphorylation.
