Suture material

The suture material for inguinal hernia repair must maintain its strength for a duration suitable for firm repair; rapidly absorbable sutures are inappropriate. However, non-absorbable sutures are prone to sepsis and the formation of sinuses.

Compromise suture materials include 3/0 polypropylene or 1/0 vicryl.
