Antibacterial treatment of aspiration pneumonia
Community acquired aspiration pneumonia:
- amoxicillin plus metronidazole (for anaerobic organisms)
Hospital acquired aspiration pneumonia:
- a cephalosporin (e.g. cefuroxime), plus gentamicin, plus metronidazole
- some may give corticosteroids but these are not of proven value
