Consanguineous relationships are sexual relationship between two blood relatives. These relationships are more common in closed communities such as the Amish communities in the United States. They can also occur in certain cultures due to the practice of cousin-cousin marriages. Consanguineous relationships predispose offspring to an increased risk of developing a recessive genetic disorder due the increased likelihood of inheriting two recessive genes
