Differential diagnosis
An initial erroneous diagnosis of colonic carcinoma is made in as many as 25% of patients once gastrointestinal symptoms appear.
Diseases producing similar local symptoms:
- diverticular disease
- ulcerative colitis
- Crohn's disease
- ischaemic colitis
- amoebiasis
Diseases producing similar general manifestations:
- carcinoma of stomach
- carcinoma of pancreas
- uraemia
- pernicious anaemia
