Anosognosia is the phenomenon that occurs when a patient is unaware of a disease process afflicting them.
For example, a patient with acute hemiplegia might be unaware of any disability on the affected side. The patient also will deny the presence of the disease when its features are pointed out.
It is associated with parietal lobe lesions.
