Psychopathology
This is the study of abnormal states of mind. There are three approaches.
- phenomenological psychopathology:
- is concerned with the objective description of abnormal states of mind avoiding pre-conceived theories
- is concerned with the objective description of abnormal states of mind avoiding pre-conceived theories
- experimental psychopathology:
- originates from psychoanalytical investigation, and after description of a mental state it attempts to explain the causes of abnormal mental events by postulating unconcious mental processes
- originates from psychoanalytical investigation, and after description of a mental state it attempts to explain the causes of abnormal mental events by postulating unconcious mental processes
- experimental psychopathology:
- refers to the investigation of abnormal phenomena by inducing a change in one phenomenon and observing associated changes in others
- may also refer to the study of animal learning and behavioral responses
