Simple phobia
A patient with a simple phobia experiences inappropriate anxiety when confronted with a particular:
- object, for example a spider
- situation, for example flying
- person, for example a dentist
There is a strong desire to avoid the stimulus.
The prospect of experiencing the stimulus provokes anticipatory anxiety.
