Prognosis
Patients with acromegaly have double the expected death rate.
There is no evidence at present that treating the patients improves their life expectancy.
The increased mortality may be due to:
- hypertension associated with acromegaly
- diabetes associated with acromegaly
- atheroma associated with acromegaly
- increased rates of malignant disease
