Left ventricular enlargement

Authoring team

Features include:

  • elongation of the left ventricular contour
  • cardiac apex is displaced downwards
  • on the lateral view the infero-posterior aspect of the heart becomes lower and more posterior
  • if there is left ventricular hypertrophy then the left ventricle is not commonly enlarged. Instead, there may be a more rounded left ventricle border seen on a PA film
