Anterior landmarks
The landmarks which can be palpated on the anterior aspect of the hip are:
- anterior superior iliac spines
- iliac crests
- iliac tubercle
- greater trochanter
- pubic tubercle
This part of the examination is best carried out with the patient standing. Progressing to examination of the posterior part of the hip involves a change of position.
