Medial is an adjective used to describe a point closer to the median plane in the anatomical position. For example, the nipple is medial to the shoulder.
For limbs in relation to the long axis in the anatomical position, medial is synonymous with ulnar in the arm and tibial in the leg.
Medial should be contrasted with the adjective lateral.
