The median arcuate ligament is formed from fibres derived from the medial edge of both left and right crus during their ascent anterosuperiorly. In forming, the fibres pass around the descending aorta at the level of the T12 vertebra.
Unlike the medial and lateral arcuate ligaments, fibres of the median arcuate ligament do not insert into the superior central tendon of the diaphragm.
