Mediastinal lymph nodes (anteroinferior)

The anterior inferior mediastinal lymph nodes are also known as the diaphragmatic nodes as they lie immediately superior to the diaphragm on its anterior and lateral surfaces. However, this term is not entirely appropriate because the diaphragm may also be drained by nearby posterior mediastinal nodes and inferior intercostal node.

They can be divided into two groups:

  • anterior
  • lateral
