The meso-azygous fissure is a rare cleft in the right superior lobe of the lung caused by an aberrant position of the right azygous vein. It extends from just below the apex to the hilum of the lung in roughly the median plane. It is lined by both layers of the pleura.
Superior to the fissure is an accessory azygous lobe.
The fissure may be misinterpreted on standard chest radiographs.
