Trazodone is a sedative antidepressant, and may be given in a dose of 150-300 mg per day in the community, or 150-600 mg per day to hospital patients. It is relatively free of anticholinergic side-effects but can cause postural hypotension and, less commonly, the painful and embarrassing problem of priapism. In a few case impotence has resulted.
