Abdominal trauma

Authoring team

The majority of abdominal injury is caused by blunt trauma.

The diagnosis of abdominal trauma may be difficult; the clinician must be prepared for immediate interventions where the disorder is clear, but equally must be prepared to wait and repeatedly reassess a difficult patient.

It is useful to divide abdominal trauma into:

  • non-penetrating trauma
  • penetrating trauma
