Acquired periungual fibrokeratoma

Authoring team

A digital fibrokeratoma is an asymptomatic hyperkeratotic nodule, usually in the region of the nail fold. Typically, it emerges from beneath the nail fold and grows superficial to the nail causing longitudinal ridging.

Histologically, there is hyperkeratosis and acanthosis. The stratum spinosum is the main layer to overgrow.

The main differential is that of a supernumerary digit. Treatment is by excision.
