Capitals

Capitals are used in the following situations:

  • for the title of the page
  • at the begining of a sentance, after a full stop
  • for proper nouns; that is, nouns which refer to a place, a person, or a licensed item - London, Down, Frumil.
  • for abbreviations, but only if the abbreviation is appropriate, or properly defined first

Capitals should not be used:

  • at the begining of each line of a list; look at the way that this list is written
  • to emphasise text except under extremely rare exceptions. The structure of the sentance should make any emphasis clear; the word in block capitals makes no sense outside of the context of the rest of the sentance and thus to draw the eye to it by shouting - as capitals are regarded - is pointless
