Rectus sheath haematoma
- this a very rare cause of abdominal pain in pregnancy
- in late pregnancy, bleeding into the rectus sheath (and formation of a haematoma) may occur spontaneously or after coughing
- ultrasound is a useful for diagnosis of this condition
- if diagnosis is in doubt then a laparotomy may be indicated
