Vaginal bleeding (after evacuation for incomplete miscarriage)
- vaginal bleeding may increase or persist after a uterine evacuation for incomplete miscarriage or therapeutic termination of pregnancy
- may be associated with lower abdomnal pain and / or systemic symptoms and signs of infection
- there is an increased risk of pelvic infection and empirical therapy should be commenced pending results of microbiological swabs; should be started and swabs taken
- patients should be referred to secondary care for further assessment, as some may require repeat uterine exploration (1)
