Urolift procedure (prostatic urethral lift)
- Prostate opened with special clips (implants)
- Day Case, NICE approved
- Minimal side-effects, no catheter necessary in the majority
- Preserves sexual function oSuccessful in about 2/3 of patients
- Repeatable, does not preclude subsequent TURP, laser or treatment of prostate cancer
Urolift procedure is unsuitable for the following groups
- Patients in urinary retention requiring indwelling catheter
- Patients with history of treatment of prostate cancer (radiotherapy or hormones)
- Patients with large prostates (>80 ml)
- Patients with middle lobe protrusion (but can be dealt at the time of Urolift)
