Side effects of gold are common and include:

  • severe reactions which may be fatal
  • mouth ulcers
  • skin reactions
  • proteinuria
  • peripheral neuropathies
  • blood dyscrasias such as aplastic anaemia

Because of the nature of these side effects, patients undergoing treatment require close monitoring with monthly urinalysis and FBC's.
