Listen for bruits:

  • abdominal - aortic, renal
  • femoral
  • superficial femoral

If when palpating a pulse there is a suspicion of stenosis then listen to it.

Auscultation is with the bell - do not press too hard over a superficial artery because this can cause a bruit.
