Intermittent negative pressure ventilation

With intermittent negative pressure ventilation, a negative atmospheric pressure is created around the chest wall which effectively 'sucks' it outwards.

It may be indicated in patients with chronic hypoventilation, e.g. polio and kyphoscoliosis.

INPV may be used continuously or periodically, e.g. nocturnally.
