Non-specific pneumonitis in HIV-infected patients

Non-specific pneumonitis is a feature of early HIV-infection.

The clinical and chest radiographic features resemble P. carinii pneumonia.

Diagnosis requires either:

  • transbronchial lung biopsy
  • open lung biopsy

Corticosteroid therapy may help although most episode resolve spontaneously.
