Fibres sensation from the face pass into the trigeminal nerve and enter the brain in the pons.
Fibres then descend ipsilaterally in the tract of the trigeminal nerve until they synapse in the nucleus of the trigeminal nerve at the level of C2. The fibres now decussate and ascend on the contralateral side to synapse in the thalamus.
The final pathway includes the internal capsule and corona radiata before termination in the lateral post-central gyrus of the parietal lobe.
