Once rhythm is restored, the following steps are valuable:

  • laryngoscopy - endotracheal tube position
  • ventilation - 100% oxygen - bilateral chest sound monitoring
  • arterial pH and CO2
  • serum potassium measurement
  • chest radiology looking for: - fractured ribs - sternal dislocation - pneumothorax - central line
  • urinary catheter
  • nasogastric tube
  • 12 lead ECG
  • Swan-Ganz or arterial line, depending on clinical picture
