  • may occur in offspring of mothers affected by vulval warts (due to human papilloma virus (HPV))
  • HPV types 6 and 11 are associated with the development of laryngeal and respiratory papillomas
  • risk of development of papillomas in offspring of affected mother is between 1 in 50 and 1 in 1500; 50% will be present when the child is less than 5 years of age
