Possible causes of baldness in children include:

  • trauma:
    • the most common cause of baldness
    • the hair is variable in length

  • alopecia areata - bald area completely devoid of hair

  • tinea capitis:
    • patchy, scaly alopecia
    • siblings may be affected

  • aplasia cutis and other naevoid abnormalities
